Rip currents: the calm sea that deceives and how to escape it
Stretches of sea with few waves and smoother water can hide rip currents, able to carry swimmers away from the sand in seconds. The greater risk is not being pulled under but trying to swim back against the current, and firefighters advise moving sideways; the emergency number is 193.
