Burnley appoint Fabio Celestini as head coach
Burnley appointed Fabio Celestini as their new head coach, four days after sacking Nicky Hayen. The 50-year-old Swiss won a domestic double with Basel in 2024-25 and takes over a side with one league win and no home league victory in more than a year.

Fabio Celestini é o novo técnico do Burnley, contratado quatro dias depois de o clube demitir Nicky Hayen.
O suíço de 50 anos venceu uma dobradinha nacional com o Basel em 2024-25, conquistando a Superliga Suíça e a Copa da Suíça. A maior parte do trabalho dele veio na Suíça, embora o último emprego o tenha levado ao CSKA Moscou, onde ganhou a Supercopa da Rússia.
“Olho para o Burnley e vejo um clube com grande potencial e jogadores com qualidade real, capazes de nos ajudar a alcançar as ambições dos nossos torcedores”, disse Celestini. “Conheço a situação em que estamos, e já vivi isso antes. Nossos torcedores merecem ver um time jogando com crença desde o primeiro apito.”
Ele assume um time que tem encontrado dificuldade na volta à Championship: uma vitória na liga em toda a temporada, 22º na tabela, e nenhuma vitória em casa pela liga há mais de um ano, sequência que remonta a uma campanha terrível na Premier League na temporada passada.
Diego Lopez foi nomeado diretor de futebol no início desta semana e encarregado da busca que começou quando Hayen saiu depois da derrota por 4 a 1 para o Lincoln City, no sábado.
“O Fabio traz a paixão, a experiência e o conhecimento que procurávamos”, disse Lopez. “Ele mostrou determinação e convicção extraordinárias para vir ao Burnley. Queremos pessoas que realmente queiram estar aqui e ajudar este clube a crescer.”
O clube não divulgou os termos do contrato. Ex-meio-campista com 35 jogos pela Suíça, Celestini começou a carreira de treinador no clube italiano Terracina e também trabalhou no Lausanne — seu principal clube como jogador —, além de Lucerne, Lugano e Sion. A passagem pelo CSKA terminou por acordo mútuo em maio, 11 meses depois do início do trabalho.
