English prodigies and a long tradition of giantkilling
England's line of chess prodigies runs from Jonathan Penrose, who beat a young Nigel Short at Brighton in 1977, to Bodhana Sivanandan, who beat grandmaster Ameet Ghasi at the 2026 British Championship and took the best-game prize. Penrose had also toppled Bogolyubov at Southsea in 1950.

Pegue Brighton 1977, terceira rodada do Campeonato Britânico.
