Tours and tournaments

ATP and WTA organise the main professional tours for men and women. Tournaments have different categories and award ranking points.

The four Grand Slam tournaments are the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open. Each has its own schedule and playing conditions.

Points, games and sets

Points make up games, and games make up sets. Traditional game scoring goes through 15, 30 and 40. At deuce, advantage rules or the competition format decide how the game ends.

To follow a match, check how many sets are needed to win and which tiebreak rule applies. Formats vary between tournaments and events, including singles and doubles.
